Thirty people have been evacuated from their home units due to fire at Ramsgate this morning, NSW Police say.
Emergency services were called to the 13-unit block in Dillon Street about 4.15am tomorrow, after a fire began in the basement car park.
All 30 residents were evacuated while Fire & Rescue NSW fire fighters fought the blaze; one car has been destroyed, another damaged; six cars escaped damage.
The fire – which has caused significant damage to the building’s water and sewerage systems – is being treated as suspicious.
Police from St George Local Area Command have established a crime scene, which will be examined for forensic experts and fire investigators once it’s safe to enter.
Police are now appealing for anyone with information to contact St George Detectives or Crime Stopers.
