Board Joins NSW Health AI Taskforce as New Member

NSW Gov

Justice Health NSW Chief Digital Health and Information Officer, Neville Board, has been appointed to the NSW Health Artificial Intelligence (AI) Taskforce. Neville is also co-chairing one of the Taskforce's four working groups.

The 25-member Taskforce was established to guide the use of AI in the public health system by NSW Health. It will play an important role in creating the Framework to ensure safe and successful use of this new technology in health care and health services.

Neville said it was an honour to be involved in the Taskforce and to co-chair the Clinical Safety and Governance working group with Professor Jonathan Morris from the Clinical Excellence Commission.

"I'm enjoying working with members to address concerns about how our public health services can safely use AI to improve care and access for patients while managing clinical risk," Mr Board said.

"This technology is constantly evolving and can outpace regulatory and guideline-based controls. While it will be a challenge, I'm excited to support the development of the NSW framework to address these issues."

Neville has also co-chaired the Australian Institute of Digital Health AI in Health conference in November 2023, and is a founding member of the Australian Alliance for AI in Healthcare.

Prior to joining Justice Health NSW in October 2023, Neville authored the Victorian Department of Health Advisory on safe use of Unregulated Artificial Intelligence by health services, with a focus on generative AI. He is passionate about ensuring clinical use of AI is safe and acceptable to both patients and clinicians, and its use is transparent and clinically governed.
