Four long-term residents and local treasures of the Bega Valley will share tales at the Tura Marrang Library in May, exploring local history through storytelling.

Organised by Lisa Herbert from Sapphire Stories, the 9 May event will take attendees through time, exploring colourful characters, iconic events and memories that have shaped Tathra and its surrounds.

Acting Library Services Coordinator, Sarah Morrison said library staff were excited to announce the participation of special guests Betty Koellner, Susan Koellner-Van Der Meulen, and Ollie and Nancy Hinde.

"These fabulous storytellers will regale the audience with tales spanning generations, from the formation of the Tathra Nippers to the community spirit witnessed during the Mogareeka floods," Ms Morrison said.

"This event is a must for local history buffs. It's an opportunity to connect with our past and to understand the trials and triumphs that have shaped our community."

Highlighting the event's significance, Tura Marrang Library will unveil the first instalment of the digitised Betty Koellner photographic collection.

Generously donated by Betty Koellner, this historical treasure trove captures the essence of the Tathra area across decades, offering a glimpse into bygone eras.

"The library is committed to preserving the local history of our area," Ms Morrison said.

"We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms Koellner for this generous contribution to our online collections."

The event promises to be an immersive journey into the heart of Bega Valley's past, celebrating the stories that bind communities together.
