Scholarship Trust Seeks First Nations Applicants

Councillors and council employees of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent are encouraged to apply for a scholarship to assist them in undertaking further study, research or professional development.

The Cr Pat Dixon Scholarship program, facilitated by LGNSW, is named in honour of the first Aboriginal woman elected as a councillor in NSW.

Cr Dixon served as an elected representative, including as Deputy Mayor, in the Armidale community and is remembered as a trailblazer for advancing female Aboriginal representation in the local government sector.

This scholarship is offered annually through the Pat Dixon Memorial Scholarship Trust and aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander councillors and staff with financial assistance of up to $5,000 to assist with further study, research, or professional development.

The scholarship can be used for course fees or associated costs.

Members of the Cr Pat Dixon Memorial Trust, named in her honour, determine the Cr Pat Dixon Memorial Scholarship winners.

Last year's winners of the scholarship were Cr Yvonne Weldon, from City of Sydney, and Joshua Staines, from Penrith City Council.

For more details and to apply for a chance to receive the scholarship, applicants should go to the LGNSW website.

Applications are due by Thursday 2 May 2024.
