Raptor Squad officers have charged a second man with intent to murder under Strike Force Berallier following a public place shooting outside a Wentworthville gym earlier this year.
About 7.45pm (Tuesday 20 February 2024), emergency services responded to reports of shots fired into a business on Wentworth Avenue in Wentworthville.
There were no reports of injuries.
A short time later, emergency services were called to Fulton Avenue, Wentworthville, after reports of a white scooter well alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the blaze before the motorcycle was seized to undergo forensic examination.
Officers attached to Paramatta City Police Area Command established crime scenes at both locations and commenced inquiries before the matter was referred to State Crime Command's Raptor Squad under Strike Force Berallier.
Strike force detectives have previously charged a 19-year-old man for his alleged role in the shooting.
He remains before the courts.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 20-year-old man at a home on Charlotte Street, Campsie, about 4am yesterday (Wednesday 8 May 2024).
He was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with 10 offences, including shoot at with intent to murder, discharge firearm intend cause grievous bodily harm, fire firearm in or near public place, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, possess unauthorised pistol, face blackened or disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, unlawfully possess thing resembles number plate and two counts of drive motor vehicle during disqualification period.
Police will allege in court the 20-year-old was disguised as a delivery driver before shooting at the gym.
He has been refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 9 May 2024).
