Australia's Inaugural Sleep Apnea Awareness Day is this Sunday, 5th May 2019.
A report, commissioned by the Sleep Health Foundation in 2018 examined the healthcare impact of obstructive sleep apnea, and the beneficial effects of CPAP treatment. The report concluded that the economic cost of not recognising or not treating obstructive sleep apnea outweighs the cost of intervention. Australia is a world leader in research and technology relevant to obstructive sleep apnea.
The report conclusions also highlighted the additional need for healthcare policy initiatives leading to increased diagnosis and affordable treatment of this widespread health condition. Such public health initiatives will provide important benefits at the individual, community and national economic level.
We support the Sleep Apnea Awareness day activities of our colleagues at Sleep Disorders Australia. If you think you or any of your friends have sleep apnea we encourage you to see your GP.
