Northern Territory Police have responded to reports of a vessel fire off the coast of Darwin today.
Around 4.20pm, police received reports of a passenger ferry travelling between Darwin and Tiwi Islands reportedly experiencing a fire on board. The ferry is believed to have had 180 passengers and 4 crew on board.
The fire was extinguished and there have been no reports of injuries at this stage. Additional vessels have been sent to the site of the ferry to assist in the retrieval of passengers and crew.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, but are not believed to be suspicious at this stage.
