A draft master plan for VR Michael Reserve in Lalor was endorsed for community consultation at the Council Meeting on Tuesday 16 April.
The proposed upgrades outlined in the draft master plan will enhance the overall character of the reserve providing better park facilities, safe and diverse play experiences, increased recreational opportunities, enhanced accessibility and perception of safety and improved parking convenience for visitors.
Council is inviting the community to view the draft master plan and have their say on the proposed upgrades before the plan is finalised and presented for Council endorsement in late 2024.
City of Whittlesea Chair Administrator Lydia Wilson thanked the community for sharing their vision for the future of the park in the first round of consultation and helping to inform the development of the draft plan.
"Thank you to the residents who took the time to provide their valuable feedback. Your insights have been pivotal in shaping the draft VR Michael Reserve master plan so that it can be a place for people of all ages," Lydia said.
"We heard safety, accessibility and inclusiveness are our community's top priorities, and the draft master plan tackles these with proposed upgrades to park facilities including parking spaces, lighting, path connections and recreational areas."
"The draft recommendations will provide a purpose-built space catering to the needs of our diverse community. The improved paths, exercise stations, outdoor gathering spaces and enhanced play spaces including nature-based play will provide a range of options for people of all ages to stay active and healthy," Lydia said.
Also included in the draft master plan are upgraded public toilets, inclusive play spaces, a dog park area and enhanced accessibility through new paths. Low maintenance plants will also help with park's biodiversity and sustainability and improve the overall look of the reserve.
