Works will soon begin on a major $1.2 million upgrade of the Bunyaville Conservation Park picnic area to improve all-ability access and provide a more enjoyable experience for visitors.
The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) is partnering with the Department of Transport and Main Roads RoadTek South team to deliver upgrades to the popular day-use area, which are expected to begin this week.
These upgrades include disability-friendly car parking and new concrete paths connecting the main carpark to the toilet facilities, a new picnic shelter, tables, and an amphitheater for school groups.
The works will also include new visitor information signs, landscaping, and revegetation.
Greater Brisbane Principal Ranger Andrew Hoffman stated that these upgrades are part of the QPWS Capital Works program to maintain and improve parks facilities across the state.
"We are continuously looking for ways to improve our infrastructure and amenities to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience on park," Ranger Hoffman said.
"As part of the Capital Works program, we are modernising many of the ex-Forestry facilities still found in the Bunyaville Conservation Park to improve access for visitors of all abilities.
"We're looking forward to working with the crew from RoadTek to deliver these state-of-the-art facilities."
Expect the works to be finalised by August this year, weather permitting.
The Bunyaville picnic areas, including the car parks, will be temporarily closed to the public for the duration of the works.
The access road into the picnic area from Old Northern Road will also be closed intermittently for public safety.
However, the park's popular mountain bike and walking track network will remain open for use during this period.
