- Uniting WA awarded almost $1.6 million to construct two disability housing dwellings in Riverton
- Construction anticipated to be completed in 2025
Uniting WA has been awarded almost $1.6 million to deliver disability housing through the Cook Labor Government's Call for Submissions process for registered Community Housing Providers.
The project will deliver two disability housing dwellings on Riley Road in Riverton and provide much needed supported accommodation for people with disability.
Each dwelling will comprise three-bedrooms, three-bathrooms, one disability support worker's room and will feature shared living spaces and landscaped gardens.
The dwellings will be architecturally-designed to include sustainable design features including PV solar panels, waterwise gardens, and to achieve a minimum seven-star energy rating.
As stated by Housing and Homelessness Minister John Carey:
"As part of the Cook Labor Government's ongoing reform agenda to boost housing supply, particularly for those most vulnerable, we launched a Call for Submissions process for Registered Community Housing Providers.
"As part of this important Call for Submissions process, Uniting WA has been awarded $1.6 million to deliver new disability social housing in Riverton, in our southern suburbs.
"This $1.6 million investment outlines our Government's commitment to working with the community and private sector to increase the supply of social housing in Western Australia.
"Since our record $3.2 billion investment in housing and homelessness measures, we've added more than 2,300 social homes across the State, with a further 1,000 social homes under contract or construction.
"I want to acknowledge Uniting WA and Co-CEOs Jen Park and Michael Chester, for partnering with the Cook Government to deliver high quality supported independent living homes for those in our community living with disability."
As stated by Disability Services Minister Don Punch:
"Increasing the supply of fully-accessible disability housing in Western Australia is critical to advancing opportunities, community participation and quality of life for people with a disability.
"The Cook Government is committed to working in partnership with the disability sector to drive improvements and enhance disability accommodation for the more than 411,500 Western Australian's living with disability."
As stated by Riverton MLA Dr Jags Krishnan:
"This is an important project for the southern suburbs that will boost social housing right here in Riverton.
