15 Speeders Caught in Roadworks Crackdown

Police caught 15 speeding drivers within an hour during a targeted roadworks operation on the Tasman Highway, Mornington overnight.

Between 8pm and 9pm Tuesday, police from Southern Road Policing Services targeted excessive speed in the zones, which have a reduced speed limit of 40km/h.

Disappointingly, officers detected 15 drivers speeding, with two drivers caught travelling more than 40km/h above the speed limit.

Both these drivers will be issued with a significant fine and a disqualification period of up to 4 months after being detected travelling at 80 and 89km/h in the 40km/h zone.

"It is incredibly disappointing that these drivers not only put their own lives at risk, but the lives of other road users, and road workers," Acting Inspector Penny Reardon of Road Policing Services said.

"Police will continue to target road work areas to reduce dangerous driving behaviour and keep road workers safe."

If you see dangerous driving report it immediately to police on 131 444. If it's an emergency or a life-threatening situation, ring Triple Zero (000).

If you can't report it at the time but you have footage, submit it to our evidence portal at https://www.police.tas.gov.au/report/
