We all deserve to be safe, equal and respected, and over the coming weeks Wyndham City is offering a series of events and workshops in recognition of this year's 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
Held every year between 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) and 10 December (Human Rights Day), 16 Days of Activism is a global campaign led by UN Women that encourages action to end gender-based violence, particularly against women and girls.
This year we're calling all Wyndham residents to join us at Respect Victoria's Walk Against Family Violence on Friday 22 November, which starts at 11am at Birrarung Marr and provides an opportunity to stand in solidarity with victim survivors.
We'll also be hosting a special 16 Days of Activism community event on Tuesday 26 November from 11am at the Civic Centre, headlined by actor and family violence advocate Kym Valentine.
We're also offering a series of workshops - including Consent 101, Money, Ageing & Family, and Growing Gender Inclusive Clubs: How to create a safe and respectful space for all - throughout the campaign.
Wyndham City CEO Stephen Wall said this year's activities and events aligned with the Respect Victoria theme, Respect Is…
"Safety for women is not a given in any community - and neither is respect," Mr Wall said.
"Respect is building healthy, equal relationships. It's seeking enthusiastic consent. It's promoting equality in your workplace and your sports club. It's making it clear that violence against women, and all forms of gender-based violence, are unacceptable."
"Our participation in 16 Days of Activism sends a clear message: Wyndham City says no to gender-based violence."
Wyndham City thanks Respect Victoria and Safe and Equal, who have contributed funding towards these events under Respect Victoria's 16 Days of Activism grassroots initiative.
