- Marina to transform Port Hedland's waterfront into a vibrant amenity for locals and visitors to enjoy
Port Hedland's Spoilbank Marina will officially open at 5.30pm on Friday, 29 November 2024, as part of a whole-of-community celebration event.
The opening will give the Hedland community and visitors a first look at the new marina, which will include a vibrant community space and improve safety for recreational boaties.
The Spoilbank Marina includes a four-lane recreational boat ramp, boat pens, fish cleaning facilities, fishing jetty and a recreation and event space with public amenities.
The marina also includes an art walk that highlights Aboriginal culture with artworks designed by Kariyarra artists. It features marine-themed sculptures, terrazzo designs set into the ground, and shaded areas decorated with patterns celebrating local plants and animals.
Work will also begin soon on an interactive, adventure playground for children and families following the Town of Port Hedland's recent success in securing a $4 million Lotterywest grant to design and build the playground.
The $187.5 million Spoilbank Marina project is a key election commitment from the WA Labor Government. It is funded by the WA Government, Town of Port Hedland and BHP, and delivered by Pilbara Ports. It will be operated by the Department of Transport.
Further information about the Spoilbank Marina project is available on Pilbara Ports website.
