$18M Drug Bust: Man Charged, Drugs Hidden in Car Doors

Organised Crime Squad detectives have charged a man after $18 million worth of prohibited drugs were allegedly found hidden in the door cavities of his car as he was attempting to cross the border.

About 9.40am yesterday (Tuesday 4 December 2024), officers attached to Riverina Police District Traffic and Highway Patrol Command – with assistance from State Crime Command's Organised Crime Squad – stopped a Toyota Corolla travelling south on the Hume Highway near Gundagai.

During a search of the vehicle, police located 25 kilograms of methylamphetamine and 10 kilograms of cocaine bricks within the door cavities of the car.

The drugs have an estimated street value of $18 million.

The driver of the car – a 26-year-old man – was arrested and taken to Gundagai Police Station, where he was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug > large commercial quantity and possess DECCD to commit etc serious criminal activity.

The man was refused bail to appear in Young Local Court today (Wednesday 4 December 2024).

Police will allege in court the man was attempting to transport the prohibited drugs from Sydney to Melbourne.

Investigations continue.
