Toowoomba Regional Council is set to provide ongoing water security for the growing township of Kingsthorpe with the upgrade of the Emmanulla Drive water reservoir.

The $2.2 million project is partially funded by a $847,500 grant under the Queensland Government's Building our Regions program.

Water Infrastructure Service portfolio spokesperson Councillor Bill Cahill said the project is a great investment as Council continues to plan and deliver critical water infrastructure to support the future needs of townships across our region.

"Our fantastic lifestyle of our regional communities will see the population continuing to grow and to prepare for this Council is making strategic enhancements to our water distribution network to cater for this expansion," Cr Cahill said.

"Kingsthorpe has been identified as a growth spot and council is prioritising funding to provide the necessary infrastructure to support future needs in the area," he said.

Cr Cahill said the enhancement works would mean a temporary closure of the Mount Kingsthorpe walking trail from Monday, September 9 until the project's anticipated completion in March next year, weather permitting.

"While Council appreciates people love the Mount Kingsthorpe Walk, it's critical our team gets this work done and closing the Mount Kingsthorpe walking trail is the safest option," he said.

"Toowoomba has abundant opportunities to get out and be active, so I encourage people to discover more of their own backyard during this period.

"We appreciate the community's patience and understanding as we complete this important upgrade work to the water supply."
