The City has today sworn in Miami High School's Narii Hamill Salmon as the Junior Mayor.
Mr Hamill Salmon said he was honoured to be elected to the role and looked forward to a year of fresh opportunities to connect with the community and like-minded peers.
"I know this year we'll be exploring ways we can link with volunteer organisations," he said.
Supporting Mr Salmon will be Deputy Junior Mayor, Holly Hudson, a student from Rivermount College.
"The Junior Council program provides an important voice for the city's young people,'' she said.
Mayor Tom Tate congratulated the students on their appointments.
"Our Junior Council program is the best in Australia, providing opportunities for young people to learn about their community and the importance of local government.
"Boasting 120 students, our Junior Council continues to engage more young people than ever before," said Mayor Tate.
"These outstanding young residents will share their learnings with their peers in 30 high schools across the city. I encourage all young people to have their say in shaping our city's future.''

The Junior Council provides an opportunity for young people to exchange ideas, discuss community issues and provide input into city planning, programs and services. It helps develop key skills such as communication, leadership and program development.
