Grants of up to $600 are now available to fund history and/or heritage projects within the Nillumbik Shire.
The of Nillumbik has a fascinating history of Nillumbik's First People, our local pioneers, historic sites, homes and buildings, memorials and cemeteries, and our arts and culture heritage.
Mayor Peter Perkins said history and heritage contributes strongly to shaping our community.
"Activities involving history and heritage enrich our lives, allow us to share our stories and explore what has passed, whilst also informing the future," Cr Perkins said.
"This in turn can aid our health and wellbeing, enhance knowledge and skills, build connections and bring joy."
Previous recipients of the History and Heritage Grants include:
- Nillumbik Historical Society Incorporated for Nillumbik and Diamond Creek history and community engagement,
- Queenstown Cemetery Trust, Smiths Gully,
- Andrew Ross Museum incorporated, Kangaroo Ground,
- Yarrambat Historical Society for Len Young woodshed wheelchair ramp,
- Warrandyte Historical Society for Community engagement outdoors display.
Priority will be given to new and innovative grant projects that provide opportunities for community to engage with our local history and heritage as part of an active and creative lifestyle.
All History & Heritage Grant applications will be assessed by Council's Arts and Cultural Development Grants Assessment Panel which will include representation from the Arts and Cultural Advisory Committee (ACAC).
Applications open on 1 November 2021 and close at 11.59pm on 30 November 2021
