In 2023 compared with 2021:
- total sales of published software and IT (information technology) services were worth $14.5 billion, up 28 percent
- sales of published software increased 33 percent to $4.9 billion
- sales of IT services increased 26 percent to $9.6 billion
- exports of published software and IT services were 21 percent of the total sales of published software and IT services, the same as in 2019 and 2021
- total sales of published software and IT services as a proportion of gross domestic product (GDP: production method, nominal, actuals) was 3.7 percent, up from 3.4 percent.

About the data
This data comes from the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Supply Survey. The survey collects data about total sales and export sales of published software and IT services. The ICT Supply Survey does not measure imports.
Data for 2023 includes some newly established businesses, changes in reporting or accounting (that is, consolidated responses), as well as an increasing trend of businesses selling bundled products and services, which may have impacted the data.
For all years, please consider the following points when using the breakdowns of published software and IT services. Respondents may not keep financial records of their breakdown of specific ICT sales, or their sales may not be able to be split out (that is, they sell bundled products).
Data updates
After receiving updated information from some respondents, we updated the data for the 2019 and 2021 ICT supply surveys. The updates are noted in the table below.

Total domestic sales rose 28 percent from 2021 to reach $11,386 million in 2023. Domestic sales of published software rose 32 percent from 2021 to reach $3,026 million in 2023. Domestic sales of IT services rose 27 percent to reach $8,360 million in 2023.
