The city has a new Junior Mayor with Emmanuel College's Eva Cepero sworn in today.
Supporting Ms Cepero will be Deputy Junior Mayor Ethan Burton from Robina State High School.
Mayor Tom Tate congratulated the students on their appointments.
"More than 130 students from 34 Gold Coast high schools are now involved in our Junior Council program which provides an important voice for the city's young people. It gives our future leaders an opportunity to learn about their community as well as the importance of local government,'' he said.
"It also helps those involved hone their public speaking skills and work on becoming better negotiators and community representatives.''
Other members of the 2023 Junior Council Executive are:
- Cooper Bagley – Emmanuel College
- Emma Boyd – Pacific Pines State High School
- Hayeon Byun – Somerset College
- Tate Huxtable – Pacific Pines State High School
- Allegra Jaffar – All Saints Anglican College
- Abbey Stapleton – Saint Stephen's College
Junior Council, now in its 31st year, provides an opportunity for young people to exchange ideas, discuss community issues and provide input into city planning, programs and services. It helps develop networking, communication and leadership skills.
Nomination for Junior Council is through a membership process, with each school invited to select students to participate.
