Residents and businesses lit up Federation with festive lights and decorations with Council announcing the Best Decorated Christmas light in the area.
The annual Council Christmas Lights Competition invited residents to enter their dazzling displays to go into the running to win a share of $1,000 in gift cards.
The residents in O'Brien Court, Court in Corowa who transformed their homes into a Christmas wonderland have won the People's Choice Award. The O'Brien Court display received 151 votes to take out the top prize out of thirty-four entrants across the Council area. The winner of the People's Choice Award was the house with the most online votes.
The winners of the Best Decorated House, Business and Street were determined by a team of elves. They were very impressed with the displays across the Council area from inflatable Santa and gingerbread, hundreds of lights across houses and in trees, decorations inside and out, snow machines, candy canes, hidden elves, to blow up wine bottles to ring in the new year. They particularly loved the houses that included an interactive aspect to their display.
The elves judged the best decorated entries on first impressions, creative design of lights - attractive use of light and colour, showmanship – creativity and uniqueness, Christmas theme, and use of non-lighting decorations and atmosphere.
