Esme Bowen FAICD has been announced by the Australian Institute of Company Directors as this year's winner of the Director Award for Excellence in the WA Not-for-Profit Sector.
This award recognises the outstanding contribution of a WA director for their leadership on director issues and the promotion of excellence in governance to achieve a positive impact for society.
Ms Bowen has a 30-year background in nursing, caring, business and disability board experience. She is a director of Volunteering Australia and Paraplegic Benefit Fund and is Chair of the WA Minister's Carers Advisory Council. She is Deputy Chair of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA and a Council Member of Disability Assembly WA.
Esme was a company director of and remains very involved in her family's Perth based surf retail business and has also been involved in tourism and hospitality ventures in the Kimberley region.
She has been highly engaged in community volunteering and has worked as a community road safety advocate for many years, on the RAC Council WA, Wheelchair Sports WA and Wheel Chair Sports Australia, and the Australian Automobile Association.
WA State Manager Carl Cockerham GAICD said he was delighted to present Ms Bowen with this year's award, for her amazing work in leading governance in the NFP sector.
"I would like to extend the AICD's appreciation to Esme for her continued and tireless commitment to supporting the practise of excellence in governance in the not-for-profit sector, which makes such a vital contribution to the WA community."
Ms Bowen said she was very pleased to receive the Director Award for Excellence and thanked the AICD for the honour, which she hoped would help bring more attention to the important work of volunteering, disability, unpaid caring and road safety advocacy.
