Council awarded two applications for funding totalling $3,770 under the 2023/24 Council Community Strengthening Grants Scheme at its July Ordinary Meeting.
Council congratulates the Yanco Public School P&C who has been awarded $2,000 in funding to subsidise the cost of the Year 4-6 students attending the Wakakirri National Story-Dance Festival in Canberra to be held in August. The festival is considered Australia's largest performing arts event for schools.
Council also congratulates the Leeton Rainbow Pride Collective which was awarded $1,770 in funding to go towards the preparatory GLAM UP! workshop in August, in anticipation of the inaugural Leeton Pride Festival 2023.
Cr Sandra Nardi said Council is delighted to support Yanco Public School in their wonderful endeavour.
"Council is looking forward to hear from the students that are going to participate in the Wakakirri National Story-Dance Festival. Not only will it give them an opportunity to participate in performing arts and to present on stage to a large audience but it will also allow them to step out of their comfort zones and broaden their experiences," she said.
Cr Krystal Maytom, expressing her excitement for the upcoming Leeton Pride Festival, said, "LGBTQIA+ Leetonians will benefit by having a safe and encouraging place to be creative, whilst exploring their self-expression through the medium of costume and makeup design. It will be a great precursor for the highly anticipated festival."
Council's Community Grants Program includes a 'Quick Response' Grant Category which aims to support activities that arise unexpectedly, with limited notice, outside the window of the twice-yearly Community Grants Scheme.
Applications within this category are capped at a maximum of $2,000.
