2024 Seniors Week Celebrations 'one For Ages'

  • WA Seniors Week runs 10-17 November 2024 with a wide range of events held across the State
  • Celebrations are held annually to acknowledge the contributions that older people make to the Western Australian community

Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch has encouraged Western Australians to join in the wide range of activities and events planned across the State as part of Seniors Week 2024.

Held annually, WA Seniors Week acknowledges and celebrates the contributions that older people make in the Western Australian community.

Events will be held from today until 17 November, providing opportunities for people to connect, learn new skills, volunteer, build friendships and keep active.

There are events being held in the metropolitan area and across regional WA, including an Active Ageing Expo in Mindarie and a 'Blast from the Past' quiz in Kellerberrin.

Highlights also include the WA Seniors Awards and Have a Go Day, run by the Seniors Recreation Council, which is one of Perth's largest annual events for over 55's.

A total of 76 community groups were awarded a share in $80,000 of Seniors Week Community Grant Program funding to host events throughout Western Australia.

The Seniors Week Community Grant Program is facilitated by the Council on the Ageing WA and supported by the Department of Communities and Lotterywest.

The Cook Government is committed to improving WA seniors' wellbeing and participation in the community, launching the State's first Seniors Strategy 2023-2033 and five-year Action Plan earlier this year.

WA Seniors Card members also continue to have access to a valuable range of State Government concessions and rebates, including on public transport, water rates and local government rates.

As stated by Seniors and Ageing Minister Don Punch:

"Whether its unpaid care, sharing knowledge or volunteering at your local sporting club, the contributions of seniors are essential to creating happy, healthy, and thriving communities.

"WA Seniors Week gives us a chance to recognise this and provide seniors an opportunity to connect with others through celebrating their role in our community.

"I encourage all Western Australians to participate in one of the many events that will be hosted across the State."
