2024 Tasmanian Gold Medal Award

The Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 Tasmanian Gold Medal Award for excellence in governance is Mr Stephen Brown FAICD.

The Tasmanian Gold Medal Award recognises the outstanding directorship of an AICD Fellow and the significant contribution to corporate life and the wider Tasmanian community.

The Gold Medal is awarded to a member who actively supports and leads good governance practices and principles, to support the Tasmanian business community through education, mentoring and stewardship.

Mr Brown has served as a director on multiple industry, for profit and not-for-profit boards and has been involved with many strategic and governance issues and their resolution. He was inducted into the Honour Roll for the Business Council of Cooperatives and Mutuals in October 2023.

AICD Tasmania Division President Graeme Lynch said Mr Brown has embodied the directorial values of excellence and integrity over a career spanning several decades.

"On behalf of the AICD and the Tasmanian Division in particular, I would like to congratulate Stephen on receiving the Gold Medal Award and express our deep appreciation for the dedication and commitment he has shown in his professional and public life. "

After serving as CEO of the Launceston City Mission for the past 12 years, Mr Brown will be retiring at the end of this month. He will however join the board of a new community housing provider wholly owned by the Mission. He will also be retiring from the Board of Health Recruitment Plus in October.

Stephen will continue in his roles as director of Worldview Centre for Intercultural Studies, board member of the Rotary Club of Central Launceston and an Elder of Redemption Hills Church.

The Gold Medal Award will be presented by the Governor of Tasmania, Her Excellency The Honourable Barbara Baker AC, at a luncheon in Hobart on Tuesday 17 September.
