The Australian Constructors Association (ACA) has released its 2024 Year in Review report, highlighting the progress made in driving positive change across the construction industry. The report reflects on ACA's priorities, reform initiatives, advocacy efforts and thought leadership over the past year.
ACA President Annabel Crookes said, "It is a pivotal moment for the construction sector. While we have made significant progress in reform, increasingly challenging operating conditions could undo these gains. That's why we need to push harder than ever."
The ACA hasn't just talked about change but actively embraced it. Over the past year, the ACA has continued to build strong partnerships throughout the industry and, importantly, held itself accountable for its progress.
The report highlights key collaborative efforts, including the following:
- Construction Industry Culture Taskforce (CICT)
- Construction Industry Leadership Forum
- National Construction Industry Forum
- Defence Collab Initiative.
ACA members have also made bold commitments to the future. By 2028, 75% of members aim to be recognised by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency as 'Employers of Choice.' On top of this, the ACA is launching a unique campaign to attract more women into blue-collar roles.
Commenting on the CFMEU administration event, ACA CEO Jon Davies said, "Placing the CFMEU into administration has been nothing short of a 1-in-100-year event that has characterised 2024."
"Now is the perfect time to reshape the industry," said Mr Davies.
"If government, unions, and industry can truly work together, the entire sector will thrive. Instead of chasing short-term victories, we should focus on shared goals—like improving culture and boosting productivity. When we do that, everyone wins."
