22 Constables, 3 Police Dogs Join Tasmania Police

Today marks an exciting milestone for Tasmania Police as it proudly welcomes 22 new constables and three new police dogs into the ranks.

Education and Training Commander Damien George said the new constables will begin serving their communities next week, across the north, west and south of Tasmania.

"This diverse cohort ranges in age from 18 to 42, bringing a wealth of life experiences and backgrounds to our service," he said.

"Among them are two former lifeguards, customer service and radio dispatch workers, a horticulturalist, and even a camel handler."

"This diversity underscores that policing is a valid career option for anyone with the right attitude and values."

"I am extremely proud that these 22 individuals have chosen to embark on a career with Tasmania Police, and I look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have in their communities."

"In addition to our new constables, we are thrilled to announce the graduation of our newest four-legged officers."

"Police dogs Basil, Tilly, and Nikki have completed their training and will be deployed in Hobart and Devonport to sniff out firearms and explosives, and in Launceston for drug detection."

"They will replace the esteemed Fang, Olsen, and Quinn, who have served Tasmania faithfully and are now preparing for retirement."

"If the idea of being a police dog handler appeals to you, we are running more recruit courses than ever before, and if you have been thinking about applying, now is the time to do it."

"Policing is a rewarding career that offers the opportunity to make a real difference."
