$26.8M Aid for Storm, Bushfire-Hit Victorian Councils

Department of Home Affairs

Joint media release with Jaclyn Symes and Melissa Horne

The Albanese and Allan Governments are continuing to support councils affected by the February 2024 storms and bushfires, with additional disaster assistance now available for longer term recovery.

Under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), both levels of government will jointly fund two initiatives to continue ongoing recovery efforts.

An additional $16.8 million will go towards ongoing clean-up activities, which commenced shortly after the severe weather events in February.

Local government plays a critical role in helping communities recover after an emergency. A $10 million Council Support Fund has also been established to support councils impacted by the storms and bushfires to clean-up and restore important community assets and services.

It will also provide recovery support and resilience building activities for impacted communities and support the reinstatement of council roads and traffic management to ensure locals and tourists can travel safely.

For information about which councils are eligible, relief and recovery support, visit the VicEmergency website. Communities are also encouraged to contact their local council.
