The Finocchiaro CLP Government has announced that entries are now open for the 27th Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award.

This renowned competition continues to celebrate the lives and contributions of senior Territorians through the power of portraiture.

Minister for Arts, Jinson Charls, encouraged artists from across the Territory to take part in the annual event, which showcases artistic excellence and honours the stories of senior community members.

"The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award is a cherished tradition that highlights the incredible talent of NT artists while paying tribute to the invaluable contributions of our senior community members," said Mr Charls.

"With a prize pool of $11,000 and the inclusion of the Young Artist Prize for a second year, this competition provides a fantastic platform for artists of all levels to showcase their skills."

In addition to the main award, the popular 'Selfie with a Senior' competition also returns, providing another opportunity for the community to celebrate senior Territorians through photography and storytelling.

Sponsored by COTA NT, this initiative invites participants to submit meaningful photos and stories, with a chance to win a $1,000 first prize or one of two $100 gift cards.

The Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award will be exhibited at the Araluen Arts Centre in Alice Springs from 12 July to 17 August 2025.

Dawn Beasley, winner of the 2024 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award for her artwork Legacy, featuring senior Chris Renehan, said: "Portrait of a Senior Territorian is a prestigious art prize, and it is an accolade to have my work selected amid such an impressive collection of works by some of the NT's most recognised artists."

Aneka Truman, General Manager of Tactile Arts, said: "Tactile Arts is honoured to be part of the 2025 Portrait of a Senior Territorian Art Award. Each year, the quality of the artwork is astounding."

Rachel Murphy, winner of the 2024 Selfie with a Senior competition, added: "The Selfie with a Senior competition was a fun way to bring us together, and I really enjoyed being able to express my deep admiration for Lorraine North, an exceptional human being."

Entries for both competitions can be submitted online until midnight, Monday 9 June at [http://poast.com.au].
