Local events in and around the Perth metropolitan area are set to receive a boost, with the Cook Labor Government today announcing successful recipients of the $3.6 million Metro Events program.

  • Fringe Festival;
  • Groundswell Festival;

  • WA Race Week - Oceanpaddler.

The Metro Events program was announced at the 2024-25 State Budget to further support local event holders to expand their existing events and further activate the Perth region for locals and draw in visitors from outside Western Australia.

Funding awarded to event holders will cover event costs including marketing and promotion of the event.

It builds on the mammoth 2023-24 for events in WA, with $286 million generated for the local economy.

The announcement also builds on existing government support for other local events, including Sculpture by the Sea which had funding committed for the 2024 and 2025 events.

As stated by Tourism Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Events are an integral part of our overarching tourism strategy, generating hundreds of millions for our economy last financial year and supporting local jobs.

"Of course, that's not limited to just the big blockbuster and major events - it extends to established local events that we know are a big part of activating pockets of our community and creating an incredible atmosphere for locals and visitors.

"Supporting popular and existing events through this program means organisers are able to continue expanding their respective events, helping to generate more money for our local economy and attract more people."
