This month, Hume City Council proudly celebrates 30 years of Hume City and its vibrant, diverse, and resilient community which has grown and thrived together since 1994.
Since its creation from the former Shire of Bulla, City of Broadmeadows, City of Whittlesea, and City of Keilor, Hume City has transformed into one of Australia's most vibrant and culturally diverse communities.
In 1994, the population was just over 115,000. Today, more than 260,000 residents from 156 countries call Hume home, enriching our city with over 150 languages.
Across the last three decades, Council has worked hand in hand with residents, local businesses and organisations to make Hume a place where everyone can thrive.
Since 2001, Council has been guided by the Social Justice Charter, ensuring justice, fairness, and accountability, as well as economic and social participation for all.
This commitment has inspired initiatives that bring people together and create opportunities for growth, including:
Hume Global Learning Centres in Broadmeadows, Sunbury, and Craigieburn, fostering lifelong learning and connection
The redevelopment of Town Hall Broadmeadows, now a hub for community events, civic life, and celebrations
The creation of vibrant recreational spaces, such as Splash Aqua Park, the state-level rugby league venue at Seabrook Reserve, and the Hume Tennis Centre, which hosts major tournaments.
Beyond facilities, the Hume community has been supported through the delivery of more than 100 services. From maternal child health to aged care and more, Council has supported its residents across the lifespan.
This milestone anniversary both reflects Council's commitment to its community and celebrates the collective contributions of our residents, businesses, and organisations that have played a part in shaping the City into what it is today.
To commemorate this significant achievement, Council has launched the #Hume30Years campaign.
