Indigo Shire Council has awarded $30,000 in funding to various sports clubs, community groups and service providers throughout the Shire through its Get Active Indigo Grants Program.
The program provides financial assistance to local clubs and organisations developing innovative programs to get the people of the Shire active and moving more often.
Fourteen out of 17 applicants were successful in securing a share of the $30,000 in funding, which will see a range of initiatives implemented including projects that address the provision of sporting equipment to increase local participation in sport and the long term viability of local clubs, events to encourage new participants and projects that address skill development.
The three unsuccessful applicants were all referred to different grant streams.
Brendan Maher from the Beechworth Dragon Boat Club, one of this year's successful grant recipients says "This grant will certainly assist us to purchase a number of Carbon Fiber paddles for members to replace the old wooden ones."
Indigo Shire Mayor Bernard Gaffney says Council is proud to support a program that contributes so much to supporting local sporting clubs.
"We're committed to not only supporting our community to be fit and active but also in investing in the long-term future of these wonderful local organisations that give so much back to their community."
