The Australian and South Australian governments have announced $40 million in funding for two new infrastructure initiatives in Adelaide's Holdfast Bay region, helping commuters across the city get home sooner and safer.
The commitment includes $30 million for vital intersection improvements on Brighton Road and a further $10 million to upgrade automated train protection signals on the Seaford Line. The funding is being provided on a 50:50 basis.
Federal Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said both governments were continuing to work closely to deliver critical infrastructure for South Australians.
"This $40 million funding injection highlights the ongoing commitment between both the Morrison and Marshall Governments to deliver important infrastructure projects that help ease congestion on local roads, help commuters get home sooner and safely, and support local jobs," Minister Fletcher said.
"This funding builds on the Morrison Government's $10 billion-plus investment in land transport infrastructure across South Australia since 2013."
South Australian Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, the Hon Corey Wingard MP, said the intersection upgrades will help ease frustrating traffic choke-points through the area.
"The Marshall Liberal Government is proud to be building what matters to the people of this state and creating jobs in the process," Minister Wingard said.
"This $30 million Brighton Road project will target the Brighton Road/Wattle Street/Dunrobin Road and Brighton Road/Edwards Street intersections, with works focused mainly on installing traffic signals.
"The signalling upgrade on the Seaford rail line will also optimise train operations to reduce delays from speed limitations and closure of at-grade crossings, delivering a quicker and more reliable commute."
South Australian Minister for Environment and Water and Member for Black the Hon David Speirs MP said these projects are another example of the Morrison Coalition Government working with the Marshall Liberal Government to deliver positive outcomes for South Australians.
"These projects will improve the journey for the thousands of people a day who use Brighton Road," Minister Speirs said.
"The Marshall Liberal Government is proud to be working with the Morrison Coalition Government to deliver key infrastructure projects across the state and the Brighton Road upgrades will particularly benefit suburbs in my community such as Seacliff and South Brighton."
Work on the Brighton Rd upgrades are scheduled to get underway in late 2022 ahead of completion by mid-2024, while the Seaford line upgrades are due for completion in mid-2024.
