- Miles Government awards contracts for 43 new social homes in Wellington Point and Alexandra Hills
- 20 homes are jointly-funded with the Albanese Government through its Social Housing Accelerator
- Part of Miles Government's Homes for Queenslanders plan, to deliver one million more homes including 53,500 more social homes
The Miles Government will deliver more Homes for Queenslanders in Brisbane's eastern suburbs with contracts awarded for two new complexes.
Together, both projects will see 43 new homes built with 17 one-bedroom and six two-bedroom units at Wellington Point, and 20 one-bedroom units in Alexandra Hills.
The 20 one-bedroom units in Alexandra Hills is jointly-funded with the Albanese Government through its Social Housing Accelerator.
All these homes form part of the Miles Government's Homes for Queenslanders plan, including 53,500 more social homes.
As stated by Member for Capalaba Don Brown:
"We're doing what matters for Queensland and the Redlands. These new homes will be a welcome addition to our community and for people that need social housing.
"These new homes also allow people to downsize from their current social homes, freeing them up for larger families."
As stated by Housing Minister Meaghan Scanlon:
"Our Homes for Queenslanders plan is getting more shovels in the ground and tradies on the tools to build the homes Queenslanders need.
"That's in stark contrast to the LNP, who are right now blocking 8,000 Queenslanders from buying their own home by getting in the way of the Help to Buy shared equity scheme."
As stated by Federal Housing Minister for Housing and Homelessness Clare O'Neil:
"The Albanese Government is focused on turbocharging the building of more homes in our cities, suburbs and across our regions, and governments of all levels need to work together to make that happen."
"The solution to a housing crisis generations in the making is for all levels of government to build more homes, and that's exactly what we're doing – homes for renters, homes for first-home buyers, and homes for the most vulnerable in our community. Because more homes means more affordable housing."
