450 Territory Firms Enlist for Million Dollar Road Trip

NT Government

Thousands of Territory-loving road trippers have already signed up to be part of the Million Dollar Road Trip NT - a partnership between the Lawler Labor Government and the Caravan Industry Association of Australia.

The Million Dollar Road Trip NT will entice more local and interstate travellers to the Territory - which means more support for local businesses and work opportunities for Territorians - by offering self-drive travellers who visit and explore the NT between May to September 2024 a chance to win $1 million cash from the Caravan Industry Association.

Since launching in May, the Million Dollar Road Trip has had 3500 entries, with 450 businesses participating in the business boosting scheme.

Up and down the track there are cafes, restaurants, caravan parks, fishing charters and car rental companies who are benefiting from this initiative. Self-drivers will have the chance to win the major prize of $1 million cash, or runner up prizes including $10,000 cash plus a $500 fuel voucher or one of 19 x $500 fuel vouchers.

792,000 self-drive visitors headed to the Territory in 2023 up 12% on the previous year. Self-drive visitors contributed $867 million to the Territory economy in 2023, which is 6.1% higher than the year ending December 2022.

Tourism in the Territory is going from strength to strength and that includes cruise tourism with Silversea's luxury expedition ship Silver Cloud arriving in Darwin yesterday where it will home port in Darwin. This will double the opportunity for cruise passengers to explore the Territory with passengers embarking and disembarking in Darwin during the 2024-25 Top End cruise season.
