The Tasmanian Government's biggest-ever healthcare recruitment blitz is already delivering positive results for our health system, with hundreds more doctors, nurses, paramedics and support staff joining our healthcare ranks since it kicked off in late April.
Launched as a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future on 28 April 2024, the nation-leading healthcare recruitment blitz has delivered 494 additional staff into our health system, including 138 new nurses – almost two every single day.
This is more proof that we are employing more doctors, nurses and paramedics than at any time in Tasmania's history, and we are committed to recruiting even more.
Minister for Health, Mental Health and Wellbeing, Guy Barnett, welcomed the new healthcare workers and said the job is just beginning, with even more recruitment underway, including new GPs as part of our Rapid Response team.
"We are delivering the staff our healthcare system needs, and it's extremely positive that less than three months into our health recruitment blitz, we have already welcomed nearly 500 new healthcare workers into the ranks, including 138 new nurses," the Minister said.
"There is no doubt about it, the Tasmanian Government is growing our health service.
"Tasmania already has more healthcare workers than any state in Australia per head of population, but we are committed to delivering more to ensure Tasmanians can get the health care they need sooner.
"As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future we are investing $12.1 billion for health over the next four years to build a better health system.
"That's $8.3 million every single day to expand our hospitals, emergency departments and healthcare services around the state."
