There have been several amazing things happening for the Carisbrook community these past six months.

Firstly, after years of conflict and consultation, Council and a group of community members have agreed to work together collaboratively on an issue that has been unresolved for many years. The second meeting was held last week – Tuesday 29 May 2024.

In December 2023 the Central Goldfields Shire CEO, Ms Lucy Roffey agreed for Council to undertake an independent review of the existing levees. An independent reviewer, identified by community members will be appointed, and the report should be handed down by the end of September 2024.

As one of the committee members put it so eloquently: "nature waits for no-one". The main aim and focus of the review is to give the Carisbrook community peace of mind that the levee will hold in a one in one-hundred-year flood.

However, we all know the incredible power of nature. The committee members(community group and council officers) have indicated that they will accept the findings of the Independent Review.

Secondly, the Carisbrook community has been accepted by the Resilience Canopy. This initiative is still in its infancy but holds great promise. The requirement for this initiative to succeed is that as many members of the community as possible should be involved. The aim is to make it a fun and enjoyable experience for all those involved.

Thirdly, the newly established Tullaroop Creek Advisory Committee will hold their first meeting on Wednesday, 5th June 2024. This promises to be a great opportunity to establish partnerships with community groups and Council, identifying projects, working together, creating a space we can all enjoy and benefit from.

Lastly, I empathise with those in our community who have concerns about the proposed development of two new broiler farms near Carisbrook. The applications are at an early stage in the planning process and remain subject to a full assessment in accordance with the planning framework. Council must and will consider submissions up until the time that the applications are decided at a future Council Meeting. We encourage any person with an interest in either or both applications to lodge a submission so that all relevant issues can be identified, understood and assessed.
