64 Speeders Caught In Two Days In Northern Tasmania

Police from Northern Road Policing Services, the Central North Division and the North-East Division conducted targeted road safety operations on the Bass Highway and West Tamar Highway on Thursday and Friday.

Inspector Nick Clark said four fatal crashes and several serious crashes have occurred on these highways in the past eight months.

"Police want to make sure everyone stays safe on our roads, and these high visibility operations are a reminder to all road users that police can be anywhere, at any time.

"In just two days these operations caught 64 people speeding – including at speeds of 140 km/h and 135 km/h – and detected two seat belt and two mobile phone offences."

"We will continually monitor and enforce the road rules, and these road safety operations will continue in the lead up to and throughout the festive season."
