The Minns Labor Government is helping enable more than 5,300 new homes in Port Macquarie-Hastings by providing $7 million in financial support to council through the latest round of the Low Cost Loans Initiative (LCLI).

The funding will help support construction of a new $152 million Water Treatment Plant at Cowarra, which will make sure the region has a reliable supply of filtered drinking water to support future housing growth.

Once complete, the plant will supply filtered water to Sancrox, Thrumster, Port Macquarie, Lake Cathie, Bonny Hills and the Camden Haven through current and future upgrades to water reticulation networks.

The NSW Government has declared the project State Significant Infrastructure, recognising its importance to the state's future and its role in delivering long term water security for the Port Macquarie Hastings region.

The new Cowarra Water Treatment Plant will enhance the communities water quality and security making sure people have reliable access to a filtered water supply.

This is another example of the Minns Labor Government investing in vital community infrastructure to enable housing growth and build better communities right across NSW.

The competitive grants program was open to 95 regional councils to help deliver critical infrastructure that will accelerate new housing supply. Under the LCLI, the NSW Government covers 50 per cent of interest costs on eligible loans.
