More than 800,000 homes and businesses across Queensland are now able to upgrade to a world‑class, full fibre NBN broadband connection, supported by investment from the Albanese Government.
The Government has invested $2.4 billion in NBN Co over four years to give 1.5 million more households and businesses affordable access to full fibre to the premises, including over 660,000 in regional communities.
This is on top of our commitment to ensure the NBN remains in public hands, with legislation introduced to ensure the NBN remains in public ownership.
Queensland has seen strong uptake with more than 117,000 premises across the state already upgrading to full fibre - benefitting from speeds up to 18 times faster than the average broadband connection over copper.
The local government areas of Moreton Bay, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Cairns lead the way with the highest number of fibre connections.
Access to upgrades across the state is expanding with a further 41,000 premises - including 39,000 in 54 suburbs not previously announced - to be progressively eligible fibre upgrades between now and the end of 2025.
Full fibre connections allow more people to enjoy faster speeds while streaming, gaming and working from home and continues the Government's commitment to keep communities connected.
The upgrades come as Queenslanders are using more data than ever - with data consumption growing by more than 37 per cent over the past three years. The average Queensland household now downloads around 482GB of data each month, equivalent to streaming more than 50 hours of 4K Netflix.
The fibre upgrades are available on demand when an eligible household or small business takes out an eligible higher speed tier plan.
