A 'p' plater has been caught driving more than double the speed limit in Greenvale yesterday afternoon.
Officers from State Highway Patrol South East detected a white Holden utility travelling 168km/h in an 80km/h zone on Somerton Road in Greenvale about 1pm on Thursday, 30 June.
Police followed the vehicle which continued at high speed, before it turned onto Wildwood Road at Oaklands Junction.
It is alleged the car then accelerated to a speed, in excess of 100km/h, on St Johns Road which is a 50km/h zone.
The driver then swerved to avoid crashing into a car before he lost control, skidded from the road and became bogged.
The 19-year-old driver was arrested at the scene.
His vehicle was impounded for 30 days at a cost of $1042.
The Dallas man is expected to be charged on summons with offences including reckless conduct endangering persons, speed dangerous, manner dangerous, reckless driving, numerous counts of exceeding the speed limit and failure to display P places as required.
