89 Arrested in 48 Hours of Operation Whiskey Legion

Gold Coast police have arrested 89 people on 185 charges and conducted more than 1,600 roadside breath tests on the first day of Operation Whiskey Legion.

The high-visibility operation commenced on February 26, targeting high-risk offenders, drug and property crime, and anti-social behaviour.

One of the arrests included a man after police executed a search warrant at Gatina Crescent in Coomera.

During the search, officers allegedly located quantities of cocaine and methamphetamines, as well as drug paraphernalia. A shortened .22 calibre bolt-action rifle and a shotgun shell were also located inside a white Nissan Navara registered to the man.

The 46-year-old Coomera man has been charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs and one count each of possessing utensils, unlawful possession of weapons (short firearm), and authority required to possess explosives.

He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on March 18.

Another arrest included a man after police intercepted a Nissan XRAIL at Kortana Drive in Nerang.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly located a knife and an axe. A 27-year-old Loganlea man was issued with a Notice to Appear on two counts of possessing a weapon, providing a false name, and driving while unlicensed.

He is due to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on March 6.

Acting Chief Superintendent Peter Miles said police were committed to taking a strong stance against crime.

"Operation Whiskey Legion is about sending a clear message that crime will not be tolerated on the Gold Coast," Acting Chief Superintendent Miles said.

"Our officers are working around the clock to identify, target, and remove those engaging in unlawful activity from the community."

As part of the operation, officers also conducted 1,697 roadside breath tests across key transport corridors and crime hotspots.

"We know the devastating impact crime can have on victims, which is why we are not only focused on enforcement but also on engaging with victims to ensure they feel supported and kept informed throughout the investigative process," Acting Chief Superintendent Miles said.

The operation will continue across the Gold Coast until March 5.
