South Australia recorded a surge in full time employment in August with the 3900 jobs created taking the State to a record number of people now in full time work.
"The record 569,500 South Australians in full time work came on the back of a record number of hours being worked," said Minister for Innovation and Skills David Pisoni.
"Underemployment in South Australia has fallen again with more people working longer hours as the economy continues to defy the impact of the pandemic.
"South Australia's performance in hours worked contrasts sharply with the Eastern States with NSW suffering a 6.5 per cent decline in hours worked, Queensland slipping 5.3 per cent and Victoria recording a 3.4 per cent decline.
"Another extremely pleasing result is the fall in youth unemployment to a 12-year low and a full percentage point below the national average.
"South Australia's strong performance of youth unemployment is the reason why young people are choosing to stay rather than chase jobs interstate.
"August also saw the second highest number of South Australians in work on record, illustrating the long-term strength of economy.
"Today's ABS employment data is great news for South Australians thinking of buying a house, opening a business or looking to get a loan from the bank.
"These figures illustrate why business confidence in South Australia has never been higher, why young people are choosing to stay and why South Australia is once again attracting people from the eastern states.
"The fact that South Australia has created 30,000 jobs during 2021 highlights the success of the Marshall Government's strong economic policies.
"The Marshall Government's record $17.9 billion infrastructure investment and $4 billion COVID-19 stimulus will continue to create new jobs and opportunities for South Australians, cementing our reputation as the world's third most liveable city.
"Little wonder that Roy Morgan's special analysis found that South Australia has "handled the pandemic better than any other state on the employment front".
"South Australia's growing prosperity is underpinned by our exceptionally strong performance in handling both the health and economic threats posed by COVID-19.
"The unemployment rate of 5 per cent has fallen by 2.7 percentage points in the last 12 months.
