ACCC Clears Accreditation Plan for Vic Electricity Firms

ACCC

The ACCC has released a final determination authorising Victoria's 5 Electricity Distribution Network Service Providers - AusNet Electricity Services, Citipower, Jemena Electricity Networks (Vic), Powercor Australia and United Energy Distribution (the Applicants) - to continue to operate their scheme requiring civil contractors performing underground civil works involving electrical infrastructure assets to meet certain accreditation standards.

The ACCC granted interim authorisation on 8 May 2024 to avoid disruption to the industry likely to result from a suspension of the Applicants' accreditation scheme following expiry of the previous authorisation, which would have occurred on 15 May 2024.

On 17 July 2024, the ACCC issued a draft determination proposing to grant authorisation for 10 years.

The ACCC issued a final determination on 11 September 2024 granting authorisation AA1000668 for 10 years. The interim authorisation will remain in place until the ACCC's final determination comes into effect.

Further information is available on the ACCC's public register.
