A side track on Beechmont Road at Beechmont is opening this week, with reconstruction work to continue to repair the significant damage that occurred from landslips earlier this year.
This comes following a portion of the road eroding away during heavy rains earlier this year, requiring significant stabilisation and reconstruction work.
From 2.30pm on Thursday (28 July), Beechmont Road access will reopen for motorists with a temporary, single-lane, side track under traffic control.
The side track will be open between 2:30pm and 8:30am Monday to Friday.
It will be closed from 8:30am to 2:30 pm Monday to Friday for reconstruction works.
Weekend access will be maintained under traffic signals, with some works requiring short delays.
For the safety of motorists and workers, the speed limit is reduced to 20km/h when travelling through the side track.
Motorists should also expect some delays when travelling along Beechmont Road as we continue to repair damage on multiple sites along Beechmont Road.
Reconstruction works at this natural disaster site will continue for quite some time.
Works will involve stabilising the downslope area and building up the embankment to allow us to restore Beechmont Road to two lanes of traffic.
Trucks and buses will need to be a gross maximum of 24.5 tonnes, with a six-tonne maximum per axle load, and rigid chassis type only.
For the safety of all road users, bike riders must follow traffic control and traffic signals on Beechmont Road particularly at the section of the single-lane side track.
To provide motorists with roadside information about these temporary traffic arrangements, information will also be highlighted on electronic signs.

"The repair and stabilisation works already undertake now allow us to safely reopen Beechmont Road with a temporary, single-lane, side track.
"In the past four months, crews have tirelessly carried out repair works to stabilise the major landslip area above and below the road.

"We know how difficult it has been for residents without this access but I'm please we can now reinstate a single-lane to connect the communities.
"Work will continue to stabilise and reinstate the full road as quickly and safely as possible for locals and tourists alike.
