More people will be able to explore Yarrambat's rich history after a Liberals and Nationals commitment to long overdue accessibility upgrades for the Yarrambat Historical Society.
The Society is a small volunteer run group, overseeing the preservation of several historic buildings in Yarrambat, including the fully intact 120-year-old Yarrambat Primary School, a fully intact shearing shed, gold mine equipment, as well as rare farming artefacts from the 1860s.
The Society has been seeking funding to improve accessibility, with visitor access severely impacted due to the lack of disability access.
A Liberal and Nationals Government will commit $20,000 towards the installation of a ramp and accessibility upgrades, making the museum accessible for all.
Shadow Minister for Disability, Tim Bull, said this was a straightforward commitment to deliver significant benefit.
"The Yarrambat Historical Society has been waiting for this funding for five years now, these upgrades mean more people will be able to access the history of Yarrambat," Mr Bull said.
Liberal Candidate for Yan Yean, Richard Welch, said it was essential that disability access was provided for all who visit the museum.
"The Liberals and Nationals are committed to supporting volunteers, who are the backbone of our smaller communities, and today's announcement for the Yarrambat Historical Society is part of that," Mr Welch said.
