Latrobe City Council would like to recognise John Guy OAM of Morwell for his significant contribution to local government and volunteer involvement in community services across Latrobe City.
Council offers their condolences to his family and friends following the news of his passing on Sunday 9 April 2023.
John served as a Councillor for the former Shire of Morwell and City of Morwell from 1988 to 1994, this included a role as President from 1990 to 1991 and Mayor for two terms from 1991 to 1993 respectively. He was Chairman of the Latrobe Regional Commission and Chairman of Commissioners of the Wellington Shire Council during the amalgamation process of local governments.
John was instrumental in the Latrobe City International Relations Committee this included work to establish a sister city relationship between Morwell and Takasago such as acknowledgement gifts and visits.
John was also awarded a medal of the Order of Australia in 2011 for his community contribution.
John also had a strong connection to community with his involvement with Mitchell House, Maryvale High School Council and the Gippsland Leadership Program. He was also involved as a Board Member of the Latrobe Community Health Service, Chairman of Advance Morwell and President of the Maryvale Probus Club.
Council recognises John's dedication and service. He will be truly missed.
