ACMA Seeks Public Feedback on Australia's Telecom Numbering Plan

With the current Numbering Plan due to sunset in 2025, the ACMA is reviewing the rules for the allocation and use of phone numbers for telecommunications services in Australia.

This review will help us promote effective and efficient numbering arrangements and ensure the rules remain fit for purpose for the innovative and changing telecommunications environment.

The ACMA has published a discussion paper outlining some of the key issues Australia's new numbering plan proposes to consider, including incorporating technological innovations such as Voice over Internet Protocol and the Internet of Things, and changing rules for smartnumbers.

Submissions to the ACMA consultation close on Monday 1 July 2024.
