The Victorian Government is standardising household waste and recycling services across Victoria – with all councils to move to a four-bin system by July 2027.
To help Central Goldfields Shire prepare for the transition, residents are being asked to share their feedback on waste. Community feedback will help us roll-out the new four-bin service that meets the needs of residents.
The four-bin service will help reduce the amount of waste set to landfill and improve the quality of recyclables in Victoria.
Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Grace La Vella said it was important for the community to understand that the upcoming changes were being enforced by the Victorian Government.
"All Victorian councils are required to move to the four-bin system by July 2027. This is to help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and improve the quality of recyclables in Victoria.
"We are currently waiting for the Victorian Government to release their final service standards. Once we have them, we can review them and determine the most cost-effective approach for implementing the new system.
"Whilst we wait for these to come through, to help us prepare for the transition we're inviting residents to share their feedback on waste.
"Shortly, every resident in the Shire will receive a survey in the letterbox – alternatively they can complete the survey online at www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/waste
"We encourage everyone to complete the survey so that we can ensure the new system is rolled out in a way that our community needs and wants.
"Alternatively, residents can chat to a member of our Waste team at either the Talbot Farmers Market on Sunday 18 May or Sunday 15 June or alternatively the Dunolly Country Market on Sunday 27 April or Sunday 22 June.
"Residents are also reminded that they don't need to do anything until the changes are introduced in 2027. There are no changes to what can go in each bin until the new standards are introduced.
"We'd also like to reassure residents that there will be plenty of opportunities between now and 2027 for us to support and educate our community as we transition."
