ACT & Capital Region Elects New President, Council

Managing Director of JGS Property, James Service AM, has been elected President, succeeding outgoing President Phil O'Brien.

Mr Service was last year awarded ACT Division Life Membership of the Property Council of Australia and brings extensive experience and commitment to the role.

"I am honoured to be elected as Division President of the Property Council ACT & Capital Region, the leading industry body representing the property sector here in Canberra and the region," Mr Service said.

"I look forward to working with Ashlee Berry and my fellow Division Council members to continue the proactive agenda the Division has developed and will further capitalise on over the term of this government.

"We must use the opportunity to work with government, industry and community to unlock more housing choice, balanced and fair taxation, enhance vibrancy and nightlife particularly in Civic and the town centres, advocate for sustainable urban growth, and improved infrastructure in our great Nation's Capital and the Region.

"With our Division Council and with the broader membership we will continue to work to harness the power of property, development, and the built environment to secure a prosperous future for all Canberrans and residents of the Capital Region," Mr Service said.

Mr Service paid tribute to outgoing President, Phil O'Brien - who remains on the Division Council as Immediate Past President - for his service and commitment over the past two years.

"Phil has played a pivotal role in leading the Division as it navigated a turbulent and tough economic period, characterised by some poor legislative outcomes.

The membership records its gratitude to Phil, and to retiring Vice Presidents Arabella Rohde and Andrew Balzanelli for their equally significant contributions," Mr Service said.

Property Council ACT & Capital Region Executive Director Ashlee Berry said James and the new Division Council would lead the Division at a critical time.

"I am thrilled to be working with James and the broader Division Council as we enter a period of stability and growth for the Property Council in the ACT & Capital Region, with a renewed focus on the priorities we took to the Election last October.

"Our members are responsible for designing, developing and managing Canberra - with great power comes great responsibility and I am certain we have the right people at the table who can guide us through the next few years," Ms Berry said.
