The Property Council ACT has cautiously welcomed today's Planning Statement, noting that many of the initiatives align with the advocacy group's longstanding calls to increase housing supply.
"The Property Council has long advocated for greater housing style and choice across more locations to boost supply, and today's announcement is a step in the right direction," Property Council ACT and Capital Regions Interim Executive Director Gino Luglietti said.
"With the ACT population expected to nearly double by 2060, it is clear that we need more housing supply to support our growing city. A focus on bolstering the density in the 'missing middle' and increasing housing diversity is particularly welcome."
Mr Luglietti called on the ACT Government to back these initiatives with robust policies and adequate funding.
"With the ACT budget around the corner, the Property Council and our members will be closely monitoring its contents to ensure it supports today's announcements and enables our sector to deliver the housing we need," he said.
"While today's announcement is a positive step, what we really need to see is the ACT Government take real action to reduce the ever-growing burden of multicolored tape and open-ended risk that strangles planning and hinders supply."
